New York: Weekend Eight

Saturday, June 29, 2019

Saturday was a bit of an adventurous day! I met up with a coworker to go to the Frick Collection (an art museum from the collection of Henry Clay Frick). The museum (designed to look like Frick’s original house) boasts a large number of beautiful works from Old Master paintings (ex. Rembrandt, Goya, Bellini) to sculptures such as Diana the Huntress. Hands down my favourite paintings were: The Rehearsal (Degas), Symphony in Flesh Color and Pink (Whistler), and Harbor of Dieppe: Changement de Domicile (Turner). BONUS: there is absolutely no photography allowed in the museum! I cannot remember the last time that I have been in a museum where I didn’t have to ask someone (on their phone) to move out of the way!

After that I met up with another friend to go to a pilates class at a studio in SoHo. It was my first time trying pilates!

Feeling energized & a little bit extra!

After that we hopped on some Citi-Bikes and biked down to Battery Park (Financial District). The bike path along the Hudson River was beautiful! We avoided riding on the street as much as possible because New York drivers are a bit scary and impulsive.

That night there was a Hawaiian themed party at one of the co-living houses owned by my housing company. We ended up leaving early to go and drink wine on my friends rooftop in Williamsburg watching the Manhattan skyline come alive with lights.

Sunday was the official World Pride Parade! I felt overwhelmed by the amount of positive energy & smiles. I am so happy that this day exists for the LGBTQ+ community!

I met up with the same workout friend and went to ShadowBox near the Flatiron building. I LOVED IT! The room was cool & dark with the only light being a fluorescent blue shining from the ceiling. The class was very high energy aided by the loud (and trendy) pop music. It was an intense full body workout, we did everything from hooks & kicks to pushups & squats.

After a busy weekend, I decided to relax and take on a new “cooking” challenge: raw rice wraps. Using a recipe from my FAVOURITE recipe website, I successfully made enough rolls for my lunch for the week!

What’s better than rainbow wraps for pride weekend?

As always, thanks for reading!

Xoxo,

Tara
