New York: Week Eight

Monday, June 24, 2019

Monday was an interesting day. It began with the cat from our Airbnb vomiting on the ground…

My job for the day was to find a miniature lightbulb no bigger than the size of my thumb. So off I went to search all over Manhattan to find that specific lightbulb. A few hours, a few thousands of steps and a few looks of confusion later I was successful! Luckily, I had my boyfriend in town for extra moral support while searching ;).

To destress after my busy day (sarcasm) I headed over to Topos Bookstore Cafe in my neighbourhood to read a book and eat one of their gluten free pastries.

Tuesday was another day at work but after work was amazing.

One of my coworkers and I bought tickets to the ABT production of Swan Lake at the Met. Before the show we went to Boulud Sud to grab a quick cocktail. It was the perfect temperature to sit on the patio – not too hot & not too cold.

The performance was absolutely stunning (I had never seen the ballet before) I actually cried. I had always wanted to see Swan Lake because my favourite composer is Tchaikovsky! What I love about sitting on the side of the theatre (“partial view”) is that I am able to watch the orchaestra in the pit as well! It is almost like I get to have two performances in one!!!

Wednesday morning I went to the company workout once again!

I was sent on a unique errand – go to Tiffanys and buy a client gift! I was beyond excited to go to the central location of Breakfast at Tiffanys. The store is open to the public so there are lots of tourists walking around. I felt so luxurious being one of the people to actually make a purchase (elitist?).

Thursday was another errand day. This time I was sent to go to a design company located in the UES.

While I was up there, I took a break for lunch. I decided to go to Serendipity 3 -a restaurant famous for its desserts! The decor is eccentric (glass Tiffany’s lampshades strung across the ceiling) but also tacky. The sundae (pictured) that I ordered was nothing special. The service was awful, honestly I have gotten better service at McDonalds. This place is a tourist trap, I would not recommend it to anyone. Maybe Andy Warhol, Grace Kelly etc. loved it in the 1950s & 1960s but Tara Johnson gave it a thumbs down in the 2010s so there!

Back to work… We have a large event coming up with the largest, most intricate invitations that I have ever seen! The invitations were asked to be hand delivered which meant that I had the experience of being a courier! We didn’t finish until 9:30 at night which meant that they let us buy dinner on the company. I had the most delicious pasta.

Friday was yet another errand day at the office, this time I was instructed to deliver something to a client. The best part of running errands around the city is being able to explore new areas/see new things like grand central station!

After work one of my coworker & I met up with one of my friends in Williamsburg to get dinner. We then ended the night drinking wine on my coworkers rooftop and looking at the Manhattan skyline !

Thanks for reading!

Xoxo,

Tara
