New York: Weekend Two

Saturday was a solo explorer kinda day! The excitement of riding the metro has faded so I decided to stay close and explore Brooklyn.

I began with heading out to Williamsburg to check out a food festival called Smorgasburg! It was blistering hot so I treated myself to an ice cream sandwich. I sat by the water for a couple of hours enjoying the sunshine and my book!

I then began to wander around the neighbourhood – stopping in a few vintage stores for some good deals. I had heard many good things about L Train Vintage – and it did not disappoint!

Today I realized that I really miss my friends. I felt a bit lonely. Yes, I enjoy spending time by myself but sometimes I wished that I could have shared views/stories/experiences with my gals/pals back home. In such a city so big, why is it so difficult to find some friends?

To cheer myself up a bit – I know “poor me” but this lack of friends thing was really getting to me – I went to Julia’s Beer and Wine Bar. It is the cutest little cafe down the street from me with local ingredients and a great vibe.

Sunday was exactly what I needed!

Out of desperation to make friends, I downloaded a friend meet-up app. I was extremely skeptical of using it, was I going to get catfished? I decided to give it a try and met up with a girl from the Netherlands working here as an au-pair! We picked the MET as out “friend activity”.

Let me tell you – it was SO nice! Meeting up with a girl my age was exactly what I needed. What made it even cooler was the conversations about cultures that we had, did you know that the Netherlands has a King? We chatted as if we had known each other for years. I was over the moon to have made an instant friend in NYC until I found out that she is leaving in a week to go back home. I guess that this is a place of constant turnover – I better get used to saying goodbye!

The MET was P H E N O M E N A L. I cannot express my love for this museum enough. We spent 5 hours wandering around with our map (like tourists) but hadn’t even seen half of the rooms ! Of course the iconic Camp exhibit was happening so we had to stop in and look around. This exhibition converted me – fashion IS art! I also found out that I can show my library card to have NY resident admission prices yay.

She had to leave so I went off to Central Park to catch some sun and take a little nap. Yes, I feel so safe in New York that I nap in public places…

Feeling happy about my first encounter from the app, I decided to then meet up with another girl for dinner! I found the cutest restaurant in NoLita that has $10 pasta specials on Sunday nights. I would 10/10 recommend going to Epistrophy for dinner. Again, it was so much fun to meet someone new that is my age! We immediately clicked and are planning on meeting up to read in Central Park – how perfect?

This weekend was absolutely wonderful. I wonder what I am going to do next?
