New York: Week Twelve

Monday, July 22, 2019

As I realized that my internship and time in New York was coming to an end, I began to try to maximize my number of activities and fun! Just as a reminder, I can’t write much about work because of my NDA. Every week day until my last day I was working 9-6 and training all the new interns! Now for the fun stuff…

Monday I had planned to go to a free outdoor concert which got cancelled due to an insane rainstorm. In lieu of that I took some of my newly arrived housemates to a neighbourhood polish restaurant to grab some dinner! Choosing food at the deli is a bit of a (fun) gamble, the people working there don’t really speak English and therefore struggle to explain the food. I had amazing cabbage rolls and my housemates had some disgusting mushy meat thing.

Because a group of new interns had arrived and it was the last week of work for the old interns, the office was lots of fun!

My friend (intern) and I invited one of the new interns to a last minute broadway show. We took her for dollar pizza then went from box office to box office finding the cheapest seats for any show. We ended up at Chicago. It was nice, but I discovered that I’m just not into the cheesiness of broadway… I don’t want to sound like a snob, but I much prefer going to the opera.

Her first dollar pizza!

Wednesday I went for “happy hour” with my intern friend at the Bowery Hotel! “Happy hour” is in quotations because since I was under 21, I could only drink mock-tails.

After that I met up with another friend and we went to high end stores trying on expensive dresses. We called it our “rom com montage moment”.

On Thursday, as a goodbye present my housemate from Boston took me out for gelato at Eataly – yum!

On the way home, I stopped in to get a little cake, birthday candles and birthday hats for a housemates birthday! She worked in Manhattan as well so we expected her to be home by 8pm. For hours every-time the door opened we lit the candles and hid. At least 8 people came through the door before her but it was worth it because we recruited them to join us in waiting for her to get home. It was so fun to see her face when we surprised her!

As difficult and dirty it was to live with so many strangers, we had so much fun!

Friday was the last day for all of the interns who were there before I arrived. We had an office party complete with a sprinkle rainbow cake from the Flourshop (ps it looks 100x better than it tastes).

After work, I met a friend for dinner in the West Village at a french restaurant (Boucherie). It was a splurge but oh so worth it!

Thanks for reading!

Xoxo,

Tara
